CARROLL COUNTY AWARDED GRANT FOR HOUSEHOLD SEWER REPAIR/REPLACEMENT

The Board of Commissioners has announced that the Carroll County Health Department has successfully competed for a Household Sewer Treatment System grant in the amount of $200,000.  The program begins immediately and all work must be completed by November 30, 2019.  The program is designed to assist Carroll County homeowners with the repair or replacement of failing household sewage treatment systems.  New this year is also assistance with the abandonment of failed HSTS systems and connections to an existing centralized sanitary sewer system.  Applications will be accepted through December 31, 2018 or until funds run out, whichever comes first.

There are certain guidelines to qualify for assistance.  Applicants must: (1) be the homeowner, (b) occupy the dwelling as their primary residence, and (c) be current on property taxes.  The property must also be located in Carroll County and the Health Department must verify the system is failing.  Income guidelines will determine whether a homeowner qualifies for 100% funding, 85% funding or 50% funding through the grant.  If a homeowner qualifies for less than 100% funding or has costs ineligible to be paid through the grant, homeowner will be responsible to pay those costs prior to the start of any work.  Applicants must provide documentation of income and other records.

An informational meeting will be held at the Senior Citizens Friendship Center on Monday, March 26, 2018 at 6:00 p.m.  Applications (which contain program information and income eligibility requirements) can be obtained at that time or by contacting the Carroll County Commissioners at 119 S.
