The Auditor is the Chief Fiscal Officer of the county. Responsibilities include: issuing warrants, distributing tax dollars to townships, villages, school districts, library systems, and other county agencies; maintaining official records of receipts, disbursements and fund balances; bookkeeping; paying bills; pay master; establishing real property value and calculating property tax; financial records; filing claims for reimbursement under several state programs; estimating tax for local government to put on ballot as needed; issuing certificates; distributing taxes to local government including real estate, property, cigarette, gasoline, motor vehicle; consulting, advising and assisting local governments and county departments as needed; seal gas pumps, scales and other measuring devices; property appraisal to establish value; dog license; vendors license; administering tax exemptions for senior citizens, the disabled, charities, churches, etc; chair on various boards; special assessment management; and registering manufactured homes.
