About the Prosecuting Attorney's Office
The Carroll County Prosecuting Attorney serves as the chief law enforcement officer for the county, representing the State of Ohio in all criminal prosecutions in the Common Pleas Court, Municipal Court, and Juvenile Court. The office also provides legal advice and counsel to the Board of County Commissioners and other county officials.
Our office is committed to seeking justice, protecting victims' rights, and ensuring public safety through the fair and effective prosecution of criminal offenses. We work closely with law enforcement agencies, victim advocates, and the courts to uphold the law and serve the citizens of Carroll County.
Responsibilities & Services
Criminal Prosecution
Our office prosecutes criminal cases from multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Carroll County Sheriff's Department, Village of Carrollton Police Department, Village of Minerva Police Department, Village of Magnolia Police Department, the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the Ohio State Fire Marshal, the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification & Investigation, the Ohio Investigative Unit, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, and the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District Rangers. Criminal matters are prosecuted in all local courts—the Court of Common Pleas General Division, the Court of Common Pleas Juvenile Division, and the Carroll County Municipal Court. We prosecute cases on appeal in the Seventh District Court of Appeals, the Ohio Supreme Court, and in federal courts, if necessary.
Victim Services
Our office is charged with supervising the Victim Assistance Program. Crime victims have certain constitutional and statutory rights under Ohio law, which include court advocacy, escort, and support at all stages of the criminal justice process. The Office of the Prosecuting Attorney does not represent individuals or provide private legal services to members of the general public. Any person with legal questions should consult with and seek assistance from a private attorney. The Office of the Prosecuting Attorney is the legal adviser to the board of county commissioners, the county board of elections, elected officials, other county boards and departments and the fourteen boards of township trustees in Carroll County only and that does not create an attorney-client relationship with individual citizens.
Child Support Enforcement
Our office is charged with administering the Carroll County Child Support Enforcement Agency (CSEA). The CSEA is committed to establishing and reviewing of administrative child support order and enforcing child support orders established by courts of competent jurisdiction. Services also include establishing paternity and providing genetic testing, case management, collection of payments, and locating absent parents. The CSEA does not resolve issues or disputes with child custody or dictate or verify how child support is spent.
